Happy Pride month!
Pride month often inspires some of our queer allies to speak out. Here is a quick round up of some of those videos:
Secretary Hilary Clinton:
US President Obama:
On the home-front I’m not seeing any videos from any of our major leaders, but here is one from a local TV station CP24:
If you feel corporations are cashing in on Pride without truly caring for the queers, you might want to check out this recent piece from Bitch Magazine about American Apparel and Target’s recent line of hypocritical Pride related Tees.
Here is a clip of Ani Difranco giving a tour of New Orleans. Difranco fans will get a kick out of seeing some of her favourite spots, and music loving activists will appreciate a glimpse of the after school program Ani’s involved with – Roots of Music Program.
The Slope Season 2, Episode 8
“Miserable Friends Who Used To Be Together” is the title of this episode and it manages to be both funny and sad simultaneously.
Jessica Clark commercial.
Jessica Clark, her long flowing locks, and a playful kitten – what more do you need in a shampoo commercial?
Portia as Lily.
Portia De Rossi has been cast as Lily Munster in an Munsters remake. from Heroes / Pushing up Daisies’ Bryan Fuller. Does this sound like something you might check out?
Anne of Green Gables returns.
A small screen remake of Anne of Green Gables is in the works. The news was announced at the Banff World Media Festival on Monday. Both Toronto’s Breakthrough Entertainment and the Lucy Maud Montgomery’s heirs will work together to develop the series and it promises to be a “more honest Anne”.
Are you interested in seeing those red braids again? Or is Megan Follows the only true Anne for you?
Lohan as Liz.
Fender benders aside, here is a look as Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor. She totally pulls it off in still images. I’m curious to seeing how the film turns out.
Tucky gives back.
Girl/Girl Scene’s Tucky Williams has now become a spokesperson for the Epilepsy Foundation. I’m not going to lie, I’m excited to see some of our young talent using their social sway for good. Way to go Tucky!
New queer kid’s books.
On a local and personal note, I have illustrated a kid’s book called The Adventures of Tulip, Birthday Wish Fairy. The book was written by acclaimed queer author S. Bear Bergman. Tulip is the story of a birthday wish fairy who comes across a special gender change wish. That wish inspires Tulip to use his fairy skills to help the wisher’s family find gentle ways to support this change. It’s a sweet story and I’m quite proud to be a part of it.
We’re launching Tulip, and Backwards Day (written by Bear and illustrated by KD Diamond) this weekend (Sunday June 17th,3-5pm at the 519)! If you’re in the Toronto area I would love it if you came and joined us for some family friendly, fairy frolic.
Thanks for taking the time to hang out in blog land with me. Whoo hoo Friday!
