Rosie O’Donnell news, Portlandia and flash mobs – oh my!
Those of you who are keeping track of who is dating/engaged or marrying who might want to note that Rosie O’Donnell has officially announced her engagement to Michelle Rounds. Congrats, Rosie!
People.com has a wee video clip of Rosie sharing the news, if you’d like to pop over.
Yesterday many were looking forward to tuning in to CTV to see Lindsay Lohan talk about her new Playboy cover shoot on Ellen. It was going to be the only interview Lohan would do about the issue, and it was going to air the day the new Playboy cover was officially revealed. Unfortunately, it seems Lohan missed her flight from Hawaii, missed the taping of the show and left some of us wondering when this big reveal will officially happen.
I know, I know, people started leaking the Playboy pics on the internet weeks ago, and you can see what all the fuss is about on your own – the internet can be a big old spoiler sometimes. Back when I was a kid you had to walk three miles in the snow, uphill both ways just to sneak a look at a new Playboy cover. Times they are a changing. Ahem, I digress. What was I talking about?
Ah yes, changing times . . .
Amber Heard continues to be an outspoken breath of fresh air. Pink News was recently highlighting a Women’s Health magazine interview where Heard talks about coming out in Hollywood, and is quoted as saying:
“You can’t respect yourself if you’re afraid to be who you are. It requires bravery to do something no one else around you is doing . . . but the risk was outweighed by the possibility of playing into this horribly detrimental lie that some in Hollywood perpetuate.”
I’ll raise a glass to not perpetuating the lie that there are hardly any queers in Hollywood, or that they shouldn’t come out for fear of their careers!
Now for a little Hollywood North:
Apparently Bo knows sci-fi shows. Though we already knew that; 400,000 of us are tuning in to Showcase’s hit series Lost Girl, which is a great reason Showcase to announce that a third season is confirmed. They’ll start filming in the spring of 2012.
I have been tracking the award-winning indie film Pariah for you for quite some time, and though it did debut in Canada at TIFF, Toronto’s Inside Out film fest is going to offer you another chance to see it on the big screen. They’ll be screening it at the TIFF Lightbox Jan 12.
TO folks: go support this amazing film if you can! I’ll keep you all posted on any other dates announced across the country.
What is new and notable on the stuff you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home?
The Roots have a new disc.
So does Kathleen Edwards.
The Chaz Bono documentary Becoming Chaz is out on DVD.
. . . and yes, you can download the first season of Portlandia on iTunes right now!
FYI, Portlandia‘s second season is set to air Jan 6.
You can also watch the latest episode of Tina Cesa Ward’s new series, Good People in Love, right now:
If you’re thinking you’d rather curl up with a book or two, Arsenal Pulp Press is having a 30 percent off sale, which means even more titles by Anna Camilleri, Ivan Coyote and Sarah Kramer can fill up your holiday wish list.
I figure on this brisk December day I’ll leave you with a little something to keep you warm. Perhaps a video of Kelly Clarkson rocking an uplifting anthem with some fun flash mobs will put a smile on your face and inspire a warm fuzzy in your heart?
