Tina Fey, Ivan Coyote and a mix from DJ Denise Benson.
If you’re looking for a long list of good news, you’ve come to the right place, as it seems like there is lots to celebrate this week.
Tina Fey is a baby mama! Fey just brought a tiny baby into the world and named her Penelope Athena. Which, of course, has me wondering, do they make tiny black-rimmed glasses for babies?

Okay, sporty queers, did any of you catch the Rogers Cup last week? This year Serena Williams took the top women’s prize in Canada’s biggest tennis tournament. A repeat 10 years in the making.

While we’re on the topic of comebacks, rumour has it the cast of Sex in the City is talking about coming back to TV. The movies aren’t really my thing, but I would certainly welcome Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda back to my small screen.

Also in the works, a collaboration between Britney Spears and Lady Gaga. Does this inspire excitement for you? I’ll admit I’m curious about what the results will be.
I’m not going to lie, I’m also a little curious about the VMA tribute lined up for Spears. Janet Jackson performing “Slave For You” *fans self*. It is rumoured that Madonna is also set to present the Video Vanguard Award to Britney that night.

In other Madonna news, she just celebrated her b-day this past Tuesday, and she’s keeping herself busy with film these days. This year’s TIFF will feature a gala presentation of WE, which is the new film directed by Madonna. That’s right, TO folks, she will be hanging out in Hogtown come September.
Oh, Madonna, you manage to make both the ’80s and 53 look good. Happy birthday!

Speaking of looking good, handsome queer storyteller Ivan Coyote and the lovely Zena Sharman tied the knot recently and have shared a beautiful picture from their big day with us!
Want to see more? They have shared a few more shots on their Persistence tumbr. All of these amazing pictures were shot by West Coast talent Vivienne McMaster.
Congrats, Ivan and Zena – wishing you much happiness!
A great video of Ivan reading a fine tribute to femmes:

Which leads us to more couples and their happiness… Ellen and Portia celebrated their third anniversary this week. A big congrats to them both!

Are there any Rashida Jones fans out there?

Zooey Deschanel, Rashida Jones, Elizabeth Banks and Paul Rudd were all smiles at the LA premiere of Our Idiot Brother this past weekend.
Our Idiot Brother (formerly My Idiot Brother) is a fun film that came out of this year’s Sundance festival; it features Zooey and Rashida as girlfriends. Our Idiot Brother will be in theatres Aug 26.
Awwww, this pic is super cute isn’t it?

The love continues for Pariah director Dee Rees. Limité Magazine features Dee as one of 2011′s hot young Hollywood filmmakers to watch. Also featured on the list, representing the Canucks, is Sarah Polley.
If you’re interested, Mongrel Media just released wallpapers and clips from Sarah Polley‘s soon-to-be-released film Take This Waltz.

Tracy Wright and/or Canadian experimental film fans take note: Daniel Cockburn’s You Are Here is showing at the TIFF Lightbox as of today.
You Are Here stars Tracy Wright (Trigger, You Me and Everyone Else We Know) as a quirky archivist who collects discarded technology and acts as the anchor to this non-linear experimental trip through “a series of intriguing and smartly crafted narratives that arise from a string of bizarre experiments.” It also stars Nadia Litz (Five Senses).

And for those a little less into abstract on the big screen and more into house beats on a patio, DJ Denise Benson has released this live mix from her latest party, Head.
HEAD: sex music with soul – patio mix by Denise Benson
If you dig this mix, Head’s official launch party will be Friday, Aug 26 at Fuzion (Toronto) where you can chill out to beats like these on their Church St patio.

And while we’re on the topic of patios… have a great weekend and have a beverage of some sort in the sun if you can!
I’ll leave you with Anne Hathaway rapping about the paparazzi, quite simply because it might make you giggle a bit. Oh, and if you haven’t heard already, Hathaway will be putting on the PVC and playing Catwoman in the new Batman movie.
